Pub renovation to see 15 new jobs created
- Tue 29th Oct 2013
NEW jobs will be created in Hayling Island as a pub is going through a £250,000 makeover.
The Ferryboat Inn, in Ferry Road, is set to have 15 new jobs once it reopens on November 8, after a 19-day renovation.
The overhaul of the pub will see its interior refurbished from top to toe, while the pub’s waterfront outside area will be extended to seat 50 customers, with glass windbreakers.
The pub, which is owned and operated by Stonegate Pub Company, is also going to relaunch with a new menu.
General manager Peter McLaughlin said: ‘Its location makes The Ferryboat Inn such an iconic pub.
‘There’s something quite special about the pub being on the beach, whether in summer when you’re enjoying a drink and lunch in the sunshine or winter when you can enjoy a freshly-cooked meal, a favourite pint and watch the waves crash outside.
‘Those who have frequented The Ferryboat Inn over the years will notice quite a significant change when it reopens.
‘We wanted to retain its charm, but at the same time give it a contemporary, stylish look.
‘And now with a fresh new focus on food, led by our head chef Gina McLaughlin, we look forward to welcoming customers new and old to the Ferryboat Inn.’
The new menu will focus on a lighter bite, with meals that are 500 calories or less.
Mr McLaughlin and his team will host a VIP reception for invited guests and businesses to celebrate the pub’s relaunch on Friday, November 8, at 5pm.
Doors open to the public from 7pm, with entertainment from acoustic guitarist Ben Criddle.
The pub will host its first family fun day on Sunday, November 10, 10, with another scheduled for Sunday, December 8.
Children can dine for £1 with parents, and there will be a face painter and table entertainer during the day.
