Two GP14 dinghy sailors had to be rescued from Chichester Harbour after the wind shifted and choppy seas caused the boats boom to snap. In quite confused seas and an outgoing tide the duo quickly found themselves in a tricky situation and the RNLI had to be called.
Having capsized it was obvious once rescue services arrived on the scene that the dinghys centreboard had also snapped as the sailors tried to right the craft.
One of the crew had to be taken ashore after swallowing sea water the other stayed with lifeboat crew who were helping get the craft the right way up but it quickly became evident hypothermia had set in. The second sailor was then also taken ashore to be met by an ambulance.
After a brief period of recovery in the lifeboat station both men were given the all clear and declared fit and well.
