When sunny warm weather hits such as the period just gone many flock towards Haylings shingly shores to soak up some rays and indulge in a spot of being by the sea. The internationally recognised Blue Flag Award has been flying above the islands coastline for many years and is firmly in place for another year. 2014 will be the 23rd consecutive period of recognition ensuring continued visitor numbers throughout the coming months.
Signifying cleanliness tidiness facilities available and quality of bathing water (as laid down by EU standards) Blue Flags are dished out by Keep Britain Tidy after assessing each location according to strict criteria. 56 beaches in England (including Haylings close neighbour West Wittering) were deemed eligible for the highly coveted award this year.
Councillor Leah Turner said: Its absolutely brilliant. Its down to Beachlands staff and council staff who work so hard to keep it looking so good. Its wonderful for Hayling. People look at where the Blue Flags are and visit us because we have one.
