Having been without the Hayling ferry service for more than a month due to overrunning maintenance and wranglings between the owners and the Langstone Harbour Board this morning saw its return to the water.
After being given the all clear by the Maritime Coastguard Agency the new ferry was chugging backwards and forwards allowing schoolchildren and commuters to access Portsmouth without having to undertake the longer car journey.
Theres been much publicly voiced opinion speculation and comment regarding the future of the ferry and although talks are still ongoing the return to operation was welcomed by Hayling residents at least for the short term.
According to Councillors Leah Turner and Andy Lenaghan the owners of the ferry are now set to attend talks with authorities over the continued provision of the ferry route and how it can be sustained.
