Residents and visitors to shopping areas in Havant Borough will get three hours parking for free on Small Business Saturday 7 December.
People stopping in all Havant Borough Council car parks will be able to park for free for any three hour period on that day.
The free parking is in support of Small Business Saturday a UK wide campaign to get people to support local small businesses. Originally a grass-roots campaign in the United States (with 3.2million likes on Facebook) the UK version is a hub for small businesses to promote their products and network with other businesses.
Councillor Yvonne Weeks responsible for economy and communities said: There are around 700 independent small businesses in the boroughs town centres and they are vital to the local economy. They provide employment and valuable services bringing money into the borough.
Havant Borough Council is a strong supporter of local small businesses our business grant scheme is now in its fourth year. At the end of the 2013/14 financial year the scheme will have supported 240 new businesses with 120000 worth of grant funding since it began.
Small Business Saturday is a great opportunity to celebrate our local small businesses and I hope that the free parking will encourage more people to come and see what they have to offer.
