From next Monday the Hayling Billy Trail will be closed as it undergoes a major refurbishment. For three weeks contractors will be revamping the route after receiving a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of nearly 89000

A spokeswoman for Havant Borough Council who are leading the project in partnership with Hampshire County Council said: Over recent months the trail used by walkers and cyclists has seen the approaches to Langstone Bridge widened and 250m of the northern section rebuilt. The funding awarded to the Hayling Billy 50 project will now allow the section south of the recent completed work to be rebuilt continuing down the railway route towards the oysterbeds.

Part of the works to this section will be to gain better drainage as well as a new path being laid of the west side of the pathway trail. The east side will remain untouched and continue to be suitable for equestrians. This planned work will require a three-week closure of the Hayling Billy Trail starting on July 7. The work should then be completed and reopened for the school holiday period.
