Sunday June 1 sees the annual Sunrise to Sunset event taking place in aid of Watersports for Cancer Research. The yearly gathering is the legacy of former Hayling regular David Tuttlebee who frequented the waters around the island to indulge in his passion. After he lost his battle with the Big C the fund raising work carried on and Sunrise to Sunset still draws big numbers of people wanting to do their bit.
The concept isnt confined to just Hayling though. Clubs and individuals around the country participate with the organisers aiming to have the maximum amount of watersports nuts afloat by midday.
As the title suggests the aim is to stay on the brine from the moment the sun comes up to the minute it sets (obviously refreshment pit stops and toilet breaks are allowed). Getting sponsored is how funds are raised which is then distributed to charity for continued research into cancer.
