A mechanical problem caused the Hayling ferry to crash into a pontoon on the Eastney side of the route across the mouth of Langstone Harbour last Saturday. No injuries were sustained but one passenger was taken to hospital suffering from shock.

According to reports the problem occurred when the throttle cable snapped. The ferry was immediately pronounced out of action.

Reports from the Hayling ferrys Facebook page suggest the ferry is undergoing engineering repairs until tomorrow although there was some suggestion it could have been operational from yesterday. This doesnt appear to be the case however with the company making sure that everything is in good working order before returning the vessel to service.
