In this season of goodwill make sure its not just the turkey and Christmas stockings that get stuffed this year – remember to fill your recycling bin as well!

Christmas is always a busy time of year but please dont forget to recycle as much as you can. Christmas cards envelopes biscuit and sweet tins as well as all the usual items like plastic bottles food and drinks cans as well as aerosols. All of these can be recycled through your kerbside recycling collection.

Many of us enjoy a festive tipple over the holidays especially for the New Year and you can make sure that any empty glass bottles are given a new lease of life by recycling them at your local bottle bank. Pickle and chutney are often festive favourites too so take any empty jars along with your glass bottles to be recycled.

A large number of real Christmas trees will be decorated across the borough this year! When the time comes to take yours down dont forget to compost it at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC). Most sites are open from 8am-4pm every day in the Winter (except 25 26 December and 1 January). However residents who subscribe to Havant Borough Councils Garden Waste Collection Service can recycle their Christmas Trees by chopping them up and putting them in their Garden Waste bag or wheeled bin.

When making room for all those new Christmas gifts dont forget that any unwanted electrical items such as hair dryers irons kettles and childrens toys as well as old batteries can also be recycled at your local HWRC.

Whilst we encourage residents to recycle as much as possible please remember that there are some items which we cannot accept for recycling. These include plastic packaging such as yoghurt pots and margarine tubs drinks cartons and gift wrap so please put these in your household waste bin.

To assist residents with this Havant Borough Council will collect one extra rubbish bag over the revised Christmas collection dates.
