Its been confirmed by Punch Taverns that the West Town Hotel is now on the market with a guide price of 495000.
Currently a temporary licensee appointed by the brewery is in charge of the day to day running of the establishment while a new tenant is sought.
Since the deaths of former landlord and landlady Roger and Carole Young last year the future of the West Town Hotel has not been clear. The much loved and sadly missed couple were an integral part of the local community while the building itself has a long history that has been part of Haylings heritage since the 1900s.
Savills are selling the property and their website describes the plot as a freehold public house with A4/A3 potential and the possibility of residential conversion subject to planning permission.
Andy Lenaghan Hayling West ward councillor said: I do hope that the West Town can remain open. I would hate to lose another of the islands traditional old pubs.
Meanwhile discussions are still being held with regard to the future of the Rose in June site.
Proposals for converting the building into a convenience store were reported last month in the Hayling Islander but Havant Borough Council have issued a statement saying it was still in discussions with the developer.
Any work needs to comply with development policies and if any significant amendments are made then these will have to go before the head of planning or the development management committee.
