Clapps Newsagents on Seafront Road has had its alcohol sales licence stripped after another incident where alcohol was sold to an underage customer. A 16 year old girl managed to make the purchase without being checked for ID.
The future of the shop owned by Nigel Swan is now in doubt after being in the family for more than 50 years. In 2013 a similar incident occurred which saw a two week suspension. In light of non compliance by shop staff Havant Borough Councils licensing sub committee voted to ban Clapps from selling alcohol completely.
Mr Swan said he plans to appeal and added: Im completely stunned. We have a lot of measurements in place. Theres nothing more we could do. It was simply human error.
