Its no secret that the entrances to Langstone and Chichester Harbour have serious tidal flows and currents. Unfortunately not everybody appreciates the dangers especially visitors to island.

Fortunately accidents are rare but earlier this summer Trevor Perry a local retiree from New Cut Hayling Island saved a young girl from drowning after she got into difficulty. Mr Perry was hailed a hero but the incident prompted calls for increased signage warning about the dangers of entering the water in the area.

Frank Pearce of Haylings Conservative Party has helped get the signs installed and added a further warning regarding the recent sea defence work which can increase currents rather than reduce them.

Mr Perry was fortunately on hand to bravely wade into the water and save a young girls life. Its hoped however that the increased warnings will prevent further incidents like this from happening again.
