Over the last two years negations regarding a new location for the Hayling Seaside Railway have been ongoing. Difficulty in finding a new spot for its headquarters somewhere along the seafront has been widely reported.

After being asked to vacate current premises behind Funland Amusements there was suggestion of placing the shed further along the beach. This however ran into stiff opposition after residents complained it would be a blot on the landscape. Subsequently these plans were shelved and Funland extended the lease while an alternative location was found.

Earlier in the year there were murmurings of moving the railways headquarters to Eastoke Corner and it emerged yesterday that planning application has been submitted to discuss. Full consultation will take place as part of the formal planning process.

After sharing this information on Hayling.co.uks Facebook page a number of comments were posted by residents. The Hayling Seaside Railway also responded: No decision has been made yet we have only just submitted the planning application for the council to view. All effected residents and businesses have been contacted prior to us sending in the planning application to discuss any issues or enquires they may have.

Ian Edwards a railway volunteer also added: As my colleague Josh has already said no “decision” has yet been made. After 2 years of discussion with Council Officers Local Councillors Community Groups and many Eastoke Corner traders the Application has only just been submitted. Now there is an Application to discuss FULL “consultation” can now take place as part of the correct formal planning process.

As soon as more information is available well update the news section.
