Members of Bedhampton Boys Brigade recently undertook the 19 mile trek from Funland Amusements along the Hayling Billy Trail through Rowlands Castle and onwards to their final destination of Butser Hill.

The challenge was to raise money for the Piam Brown childrens ward at Southampton General Hospital where one of the brigade is being treated.
Nine members started out with three of the younger ones of the group being dropped off at Bedhampton Methodist Church the meeting place for the Christian organisation.

Rucksacks filled with provisions for the journey kept the team going and at the end of route the group were met by parents who drove the weary hikers home.

After the trek Allan Ward an officer at the brigade explained how the ward was close to the boys hearts. He went on: The people who work there give the kids a chance to be normal.

When you spend some time up there and see what the children go through its absolutely awful.

The fundraising target was 1500 and while its not been reached yet its hoped more donations will come in.

Everyone enjoyed it. It was fair to say that it wasnt until we got to the bottom of Hulbert Road near the church that the younger ones were starting to feel tired. What kept us going was knowing we were making a difference.
