Eight enthusiastic female writers with plenty of experiences from their colourful lives have banded together to produce an anthology of 28 stories that sets out to be thought provoking and help raise funds for Haylings RNLI.
Meeting each month for their writers circle gatherings the Hayling women came up with the idea and then had to set about raising money for the project which wasnt easy. Standing outside in all-weather trying to drum up funds the group eventually had a stroke of luck when councillor Frank Pearce stumped up 600 from his county council budget to help turn the book into a reality. He said: I was interested immediately because in my younger days I was a crew member of the Hayling lifeboat. The book looks really good.
Lesley Drew a freelance journalist who contributes a story about a Second World War bombing explained how people said the idea wouldnt work which just fired the ladies up even more to make sure they accomplished their goal.
Officially launched at Hayling Island Golf Club on Friday October 4 Pieces From Eight is now available to purchase from The Hayling Island Bookshop in Mengham or by calling Leslie on 02392 469990.
