A new 30mph speed limit has been proposed for Havant Road the main arterial route on and off the island. Currently the limit stands at 40mph but the proposal reads as follows:
To impose a 30mph speed limit by virtue of a prescribed system of street lighting (currently 40mph) on that length of A3023 Havant Road between a point 100 metres north of its junction with New Cut and its junction with A3023 Manor Road / Church Road an approximate distance of 3350 metres.
Understandably there are going to many for and against arguments with increased traffic congestion being a big concern – particularly at key times of day.
