Chichester Harbour is set to be cleaner than ever with a new waste water treatment plant. A 2m facility has been completed by Souther Water at Apuldram and features ultra violet rays that kills bacteria.
Any discharge in times of heavy rain will be significantly better for the environment. Chichester Harbour contains thousands of shellfish which should benefit as a result.
Chichester Harbour Conservancy director Siun Cranny said: It has been a challenge for everyone involved but weve worked as a team to address the issues which impact on the quality of the water in the harbour.
Each representative has engaged with the group to achieve a positive outcome which we know will be a great relief this season to the thousands of harbour users.
Southern Waters head of environment and quality added: We recognise the harbour is environmentally sensitive and we among others have a responsibility to help protect it.
