The News is reporting that Firefighters from Hayling Island and Havant were called to Fleet Farm Camping and Caravan site Yew Tree Road last night (Sunday) after a pensioner became stuck in thick mud that reached up to his chest.

The incident took place at 11.06pm although its reported the 71 year old pensioner had gotten into difficulty around an hour before someone raised the alarm.

Using a ladder to get across the mud firefighters then had to dig him out to eventually free him. Eventually the gentleman was rescued and taken to Queen Alenxandra Hospital Cosham as a precaution.
