Yesterdays severe weather warnings for the North Sea storm surge were extended to Hayling after the Environment Agency upgraded alerts for two areas of the island Northney and Creek Road/Eastoke. Large tides strong winds and big swells had potential to push water up over sea defences and cause chaos.

Although there was some degree of flooding reported mostly around Northney Road it looks like Hayling escaped the worst of it.

The recently completed sea defence work at Eastoke and Sandy Point have seemingly stood up to the test of Mother Nature and prevented thousands of pounds worth of damage. Although the works have been criticised by beach users the stone and shingle halted rising water in its path good news for property owners in the area.

Todays storm surge alerts have been downsized although there is an outside risk of further flooding. The main brunt will be felt once again along the east coast of the UK.
