There are increasing concerns from Hayling Island residents about a new planning application which has been submitted. The details of the document outline plans for a new HGV depot yard training centre and office to be located on land known as Howards Yard Mill Rythe Lane.
The area should the plans be approved will mainly be used for vehicle storage material recovery and recycling in connection with highway repair and SEC maintenance contracts in Hampshire and West Sussex.
The proposal states that 55% of the site would be used for vehicles with the remaining 45% subject to a second application for boat and vehicle storage for the Hayling Yacht Company.
Initial concerns were aired by Councillor Andy Lenaghan who brought the document to the attention of Hayling forum members via a thread you can find by following this link https://hayling.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=45704
Hayling.co.uks Facebook page has also received a number of contacts from other residents with similar worries about the project. Fears are held around the perceived increase in heavy vehicle traffic on and off the island.
A consultation period is ongoing until the 13/12/2013. As of today there have been no appeals lodged. You can find more details by clicking http://www3.hants.gov.uk/mineralsandwaste/application-details.htm?id=15739
