Around 14:30 yesterday afternoon the alarm was raised regarding a windsurfer who was in trouble after launching from Beachlands. Although the wind was strong it had switched to a more offshore direction through the day making it trickier to get back to land. Add the chilly temperatures and the mix isnt great for any sailor getting into difficulty.

The Hayling RNLIs Atlantic 85 was launched soon after Blue Watch Solent paged the islands station. Rescue services were on the scene within four minutes and discovered the windsurfer was suffering from hypothermia. He was quickly bundled into the boat along with his kit and wrapped in blankets. Having been taken to shore he was then handed over to an ambulance crew who had been called.
