The final green light has been given for Bellway Homes to build 131 new homes on fields off Goldring Close even though plans now suggest these buildings will be bigger than originally thought. The planning committee for Havant Borough Council approved the plans after the developer obtained permission for its initial outline during a public enquiry last year.
Bellway Homes latest set of plans include more five four and three bed homes. This equates to an extra 55 bedrooms in total a fact which saw Ukips John Perry plead with the committee to refuse the plans. He said: Here we have a significant increase in house sizes to those approved and which if now approved would cause adverse unintended consequences.
The impact from increased traffic a heightened risk of flooding and sewerage were just some of the concerns raised.
John Broomhead who lives in Goldring Close said after the meeting: We spent hours preparing for this only to realise it was a total waste of time. They did not debate anything.
Cllr Turner however defended the committee saying: I asked as many questions as I could. When it came to the debate I made it clear I could not support the application even though I knew there were no valid planning reasons to reject it. Its important people know there was not a valid reason.
Cllr Elaine Shimbart who was chairwoman at the hearing argued that larger homes are needed for the Havant borough. She added: There was honestly nothing it could be refused on when it came to reserved matters. As far as Im concerned it was conducted fairly and democratically.
