Facing her fears head on Councillor Leah Turner mustered all her courage and stepped off the ledge to abseil down the five storey high Ward Court building last weekend. All in aid of a good cause Leah was joined by a further 200 people all keen to do their bit and raise money for the neglected play parks on the island.
Also in attendance was 99 year old Hayling adrenaline seeker Daring Doris who recently completed her landmark Gunwharf Quays abseil in aid of Rowans Hospice.
Supported by Hayling police and fire service the event looks set to raise more than 10000. This is great news for the children of Hayling who will benefit from brand new play equipment.
Leah said after her feet www.buypropeciaquality.com touched back down on Terra Firma: One thing you dont realise watching abseiling is you have to have the faith to lean back. My biggest fear was freezing. I also got a text from my niece saying whatever you do aunty dont dangle. I did not look down if I had I wouldnt have been able to do it. Im really pleased I did it. I conquered a fear. But the biggest thing is raising a considerable amount for play equipment in the parks.
Leah was also joined by fellow councillors Andy Lenaghan Frank Pearce and Gerry Shimbart.
Special thanks must also go out to Hayling PCSO Debbie Surridge who spent a considerable amount of time organising the event.
