According to research bookshops still account for 40% of all book sales. Off the back of this an initiative has been launched that includes publisher retailer and author support. The idea is to help promote books and highlight the benefits of having something physical in your hands.

Books are My Bag have around 100 authors broadcasters models sports personalities actors politicians chefs and journalists who are lending their image to the campaign. Pictures of each individual modelling a logoed up canvas bag will be appearing imminently.

Hayling Island Bookshop is part of the campaign and will be offering the chance to win a 50 book token. They will be giving away the canvas bags and have decorated their windows highlighting the Books are My Bag initiative.

The Hayling book retailer will also be running a number of autumn author events that will feature Pam Ayres.

Shop owner Marie Telford commented: This initiative is celebrating bookshops large and small chain or independent and asks everyone who loves books to join in and show their support.

Reading is one of lifes little pleasures and our nations bookshops provide a vital part of our high street our community and our culture.
