Details regarding Haylings iconic round the island windsurf race and SUP challenge have been announced. A new specific website has also been set up with event news and info.
Hayling is noted as the spiritual home of windsurfing in the UK and the round island race is a long standing event the first round Hayling race took place in 1980. Traditionally the event signals the start of summer windsurfing and is staged on Good Friday. 2015 will see the tradition continue April 3 being the date for your diary.
Starting from Hayling Island Sailing Club racers circumnavigate the island in an anti clockwise fashion passing through various gates along the way. Pro windsurfer Guy Cribb holds the record after managing to blast round Hayling in under 50 mins.
In tandem with the windsurfing there will be a stand up paddle boarding challenge. The SUP course will be laid in Chichester Harbour close to the club and is fast growing in popularity.
