Repairs to parts of Hayling and the local area are still ongoing in the wake of recent storms that swept across the UK. A number of areas on and around the island bore the brunt of relentless gales high seas and significant storm surge.
Damage to part of Langtsone Harbours footpath has meant the section near Harts Farm Way has been closed. Diversions are in place until this can be fixed. Other areas along the Hayling Billy Trail have also seen subsidence and erosion.
Elsewhere on the island; work at West Beachlands continues as shingle build up is redistributed after large swells caused much to be washed away. Heavy duty machinery is in the process of shifting deposits and repairing sea defences.
Meanwhile the recently completed works on the eastern tip of the island continue to do their job and have so far this winter proved their worth by protecting homes from the very worst of the weather. Even though east Hayling was subject to flooding it could have been much worse.
Beach huts along the seafront are still showing signs of weather damage although a number of owners were onsite at the weekend to assess and repair damage.
Although more changeable weather is on the cards for the coming days a quieter period is expected for the weekend. Hopefully this should be the respite needed to sort out problems caused by the recent extreme conditions.
