It was a cracking weekend for Hayling and its local businesses. The Christmas light switch on that took place on Friday ensured hundreds turned up to enjoy a little Christmas cheer. With fun fair rides and stalls selling arts and crafts the atmosphere was great with plenty of families enjoying the festivities.

Saturday then saw yet another boost for the local economy with free parking on offer to entice shoppers to stay local. After negotiations with the council Haylings local businesses managed to persuade the authorities to lift parking fees for Small Business Saturday.

As reported by the owner of the Hayling Island Bookshop car parks were full and takings up by 20%. Small Business Saturday which is a nationwide scheme was a therefore a success for Hayling.
