Stan Wheeler is known to many of the islands watersports fraternity as a keen windsurfer and paddler.

Unfortunately he was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease a few years ago. Stan fought back though and was soon getting in the water again refusing to let his condition stop him.

Deciding to use his watery hobbies to raise money for charity Paddling for Parkinsons was born the very first of which took place on Saturday.

Soaring temperatures and perfect on water conditions ensured a large turnout. With support from Andy Biggs Watersports and Portsmouth Watersports who gave up their time to man safety cover dish out tips and supply equipment PFP was a resounding success.

A large wad of cash was raised which will now be given to Parkinsons UK. What started out as a low key event will return next year bigger and better.

When asked how he thought the day had gone Stan said: Looking out the sea it was a mass of kayaks and stand up paddle boards. There were a few windsurfers blasting as well. It was great. He also added: Im now pooped!
