Around 12000 cyclists took part in the annual Round the Harbours bike ride to raise money for The British Heart Foundation. Yesterday saw a large group of pedallers benefiting from the cloudy conditions which provided perfect cycling conditions.
Covering a route of 30 miles the route took in Fareham Lee-on-Solent Gosport Southsea and the waters surrounding Hayling Island. For most the toughest part of the route was making the climb up to the top of Portsdown Hill on the way back to Fareham. There wasnt any expectation to cover the whole distance if riders didnt feel up to it – plenty of points along the way were available to drop in or peel off.
The British Heart Foundations regional event organiser Kate Glover wanted to extend her thanks to everyone who took part and those who helped run the event.
We wouldnt be able to run the event without the support of the volunteers. Theyve done a marvellous job looking after everybody and theyre all absolute superstars.
50000 was raised last year and its hoped this years ride beats that figure.
