Hayling Island’s Beachlands beach has been awarded the Blue Flag for the 25th year in a row. The Blue Flag is an international award presented to well managed beaches with excellent water quality, safety, access and environmental education programmes. Just 68 beaches in the UK received the award this year.
The Blue Flag award scheme is now a global award, and administered in the UK by the charity Keep Britain Tidy. Keep Britain Tidy’s coastal award manager Paul Todd said:
“Keep Britain Tidy works with people and organisations who share our vision that everyone should have access to quality outdoor spaces where they live, work and holiday.
The public can be sure, if they visit a Blue Flag or Seaside Award winning beach, that they are visiting one of the best beaches in the world”.
Being awarded the flag again in 2016, means that Beachlands has received the award 25 times in a row. Quite an achievement by the Beachlands management team operated by Havant Borough Council.
