After weeks of necessary work the Eastoke and Sandy Point anti-flood and coastal erosion defence scheme (being put in place to protect homes on Hayling Island) has now been completed. 70000 tonnes of rock imported from Norway 25000 tonnes of shingle four new groynes new ramps steps and walkways have all been installed after a six month long project.

This part of Haylings beach was closed for the majority of the summer while everything was readied for autumn and winter storms. Works were put to the test during the recent bout of autumn winds and heavy seas everything remained intact with no flooding. Havant Borough Council are reported to have been satisfied with how the defences have performed during the latest harsh weather.

Project Manager Marc Bryan commented: As with all large construction projects there have been many challenges along the way but the finished scheme is one the local community can be proud of. We have been able to reduce the risk of coastal flooding and erosion while improving access and the amenity value of this important coastal area.
