Unhappy with existing facilities pupils and headteachers of Hayling schools are set to sign a petition asking for funds to refurbish their play areas. Representatives from Hayling College Mengham Infants Mengham Juniors Mill Rythe Infants and Mill Rythe Juniors are looking to persuade Havant Borough Council to make improvements. Hayling youngsters are seeking more adventurous and interesting equipment such as zip wires and climbing frames.

The whole situation has come about as part of the Hayling Schools Together group where each school shares ideas on how to make Hayling Island better for its youth.

Improving play areas is just one result of the discussions with all input coming directly from the children themselves. Pupils feel understood involved and not overlooked in favor of more adult orientated issues.

Councillor Andy Lenaghan has voiced his approval and pledged his support to the cause. Admitting that some of Haylings parks are dilapidated due to lack of investment Councillor Lenaghan is keen to see ways that children are encouraged to head outdoors.

The schools will be setting up the petition and will be visiting facilities in other neighbouring areas to compare whats on offer.
