When two children got into trouble after being swept into the strong current flowingout of Chichester Harbour 68 year old Trevor Perry put his own life on the line to save them. While strolling along the beach Trevor and his wife witnessed the pair get into trouble which prompted his actions.

Running straight into the water he shouted for Coastguard help knowing he wouldnt be able to fight the ebbing tide and return safely to shore. He said: Amy was screaming for help. I got to the boy first and was treading water.

She went quiet and it seemed like a lifetime. I saw the lifeboat and I pointed in the right direction. The lifeboat ignored me and went straight to where I was pointing. The guys down there were terrific.

10 year old Amy has since paid a visit to Mr Perrys home with an ornamental guardian angel gift and thank you card he was said to be overjoyed.

Trevor is calling for more safety signs to erected at Eastoke warning of the dangers.
