Tonight sees the start of roadworks which will affect Langstone Road the main artery linking Hayling Island to Havant and the A27.

A worn out section is in dire need of attention and advanced warnings have been in place for a number of weeks. Repairs are to take place between 10pm 6am and run for eight consecutive nights.

Councillor Sean Woodward the person in charge of highways at Hampshire County Council has tried to reassure people that delays and inconvenience will be kept at a minimum. There will be temporary traffic lights put in place and convoy vehicles will help to keep passing motorists speed limits to 10mph.

Fears over emergency vehicle access though have been allayed as ambulances police fire and doctors transport will all be given priority access.

The works are part of Operation Resilience which has a budget of 22m for the strengthening of Hampshires safemdonline.com roads and help to make them resistant to extreme weather.

Its been reiterated that there will be no road closures during the maintenance period and each day and weekend the road will be clear and free of traffic signals.
Councillor Woodward asked residents to bear with the inconvenience of the project. He said There is never a good time to carry out works on a key route such as Langstone Road but by keeping the road open and carrying out the works overnight we have sought to keep disruption and inconvenience to a minimum.
