The RNLI were scrambled to rescue a stricken catamaran that was sailing close to Langstone Harbour. Fortunately the lifeboat crew were out on a training exercise and were straight on the scene as soon as the alarm was raised.

Shortly after launching the catamaran suffered structural failure of the starboard rudder which had resulted in a hole appearing in the hull. This resulted in water flooding in and the boat capsized.

Due to the sheer amount of water filling the hull the helm and crew couldnt right the boat themselves and had to be rescued.

The RNLI towed the boat back to Hayling Island.
