Since the completion of the new sea defence work at Eastoke/Sandy Point there have been increasing reports about the unsafe nature of the project. Incidents of tripping eye witness accounts of subsidence and general unhappy views have been aired.

Health and safety issues and a concerns over recreation in the area prompted local man and business owner Robert Cordell to contact the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership who have been coordinating the scheme. The ESCP agreed to a meeting with Mr Cordell after views were expressed in a Facebook group. The partnership was called upon to address the works failings.

A meeting on the beach took place between Mr Cordell and two ESCP representatives yesterday in an attempt to find out how the partnership were going to solve any problems.

Mr Cordell posted publicly: After having a meeting with two representatives of the ESCP for an hour on the beach this morning we were impressed with their attitude towards our fears for the beach and they have reassured us that the unstable rocks will be made good by repacking them tighter. They also said the area of rocks on the point was of some concern to them and that they are keen to adjust them to get the beach right so our safety concerns are being dealt with. As for the surf time will tell.
