The sun shined music played people danced and hundreds of residents and visitors turned out for this weekends Hayling for St George event at Eastoke Plaza. All had a thoroughly great time.

Having been postponed from earlier in the year the organisers were crossing fingers and toes hoping the weather would shine on Hayling. A collective sigh of relief was breathed when Sunday dawned sunny and warm if slightly breezy.

With music and entertainment on offer across the generations there was something for everyone. Money raised was in aid of The Lions Club of Hayling and initial reports suggest people were very generous.

Councillor Leah Turner one of the organisers said: Its been a really busy day.

We have just put up the flag and we think its St Georges Day. Pride in your country is important but on Hayling Island we like a party anyway.

She also posted on the Hayling.co.uk forum: Hundreds of people both residents and visitors enjoyed the entertainment which was brilliant. A wide range of music hopefully suiting all tastes. Some got up and danced whilst others just sat and listened.

The sun shone on us windy though several of us got slightly burnt.

I do hope The Lions Club of Hayling collected some money to distribute to our local charities. All the local associations who helped were great turning out to set up on a Sunday morning at 8.30am. Andy C of course started at 6.20am bless.

The Traders seemed busy with the car parks full. I just hope all the visitors we saw yesterday come back soon to wonderful Hayling. I certainly sat in a long queue going off the Island at 6pm last night! But it was worth it.
