The Virgin Kitesurfing Armada 2014 officially launched yesterday and this year will be bigger and better than before.

Not only will the event be aiming to set the Guinness World Record for the biggest parade of kitesurfers riding together from Hayling Island to Pagham therell also be a two day kiting festival featuring all the latest gear pro riders movie screenings music entertainment demos taster sessions and family picnic areas. The Virgin Kitesurfing Armada will take place at CBK Beach west of Beachlands in front of the golf club.

In 2013 a panel of industry and professionals gathered together to assess the feasibility of such an event then known as the Big Charity Downwinder. The last minute intervention of Virgin boss Richard Branson also a keen kitesurfer saw the 2013 gathering rebrand. Big Vs boss man flew in via helicopter especially for the event and to show his support. Charities set to benefit from donations and money raised include Snow-Camp Virgin Unite and the RNLI.

Building on the successes of last year 2014s shindig is set to be bigger and better and its free. The organisers only ask a small donation to be made for anyone not kiting in the event. Dates are being kept to a rolling format ensuring conditions are optimum for completing the challenge. As such the Virgin Kitesurfing Armada could take place September 13-14 September 27-28 or October 11-12.

Since launching yesterday over 200 riders have signed up to participate. Just 400 spaces are left so if you want to take part then youll need to be quick.
