David Tuttlebee was a huge fan of Hayling and although he didnt actually live on the island he owned a beach hut and was regular windsurfer visiting West Beachlands at any given opportunity to get his fix.
In May 2006 David underwent surgery for Appendicitis and during the operation a cancerous lump was discovered and also removed. A further operation was needed a week later to seal his bowel. Following on from this David then spent nine months enduring intensive chemotherapy.
After a hard fought battle David unfortunately lost in his war against the big C and passed away on Sunday 19 September 2010. His legacy is the Watersports 4 Cancer Research trust which continues to thrive and every year features the annual Sunrise to Sunset 24 hour watersports marathon challenge that aims to raise money for continuing cancer research.
This years event will take place on Saturday 15 June and aims to encourage watersports aficionados from across all disciplines to take up the 24 hour fund raising challenge. As usual Hayling Island will feature as the epicenter and organisers are expecting a large turnout of participants who wish to put their H20 skills to good use by helping raise money for a worthy cause.
Supported by many of the big names and brands within the watersports industry W4CR Sunrise to Sunset challenge now in its fifth year is a way to easily use the hobby you love to give something back and help carry on the good fight against one of the worlds most notorious diseases.
