Winter 13/14 will most likely be remembered as one of the stormiest in years. With processions of Atlantic storms bowling towards the island at a rate of knots that left many overwhelmed the brief respite weve had of late looks like being at an end – we revert back to blustery conditions from tomorrow.

Friday afternoon and into the weekend will see wind and rain increase dramatically. While imminent conditions arent going to quite as extreme as when Hercules hit its certainly set to be a volatile period of weather.

The main concern is the weekends large spring tide with a high water measurement of 5m which is due to occur around the middle part of the day. Coupled with onshore gales and large wave heights the subsequent surge could be quite powerful especially around Eastoke and Sandy Point.

Winds from a southerly direction are forecast for tomorrow the angle that caused much of the beach hut destruction washed away shingle at Beachlands and threw up a lot of marine debris during the Christmas period. This is predicted to swing more south west for Saturday which should cut down on any added push as the tide floods.

Rain is also expected to be heavy for Friday and Saturday with a brief respite on Sunday.
