Volunteers began the first phase of construction on the Hayling Seaside Railway yesterday. The controversial new depot at Eastoke Corner is now underway with point work having now been put in place.
The old track was cut away as a new set of points was unloaded. Ballast was then dug out while clay was made ready for new sleepers. Work took a little longer than expected but with a sterling effort and coordination from Keith Edwards and Alex Luckham everything was completed with nothing overrunning. Cliff Robinson Malcolm Harris and Ian Edwards also put in fine performances to ensure everything went according to plan.
Over the coming weeks there will be more work parties completing various stages of the restructure. If you would like to get involved then contact the Hayling Railway Builders by messaging via their Facebook page or calling Bob Haddock 07775 696912.
