After a lengthy spell of negotiation with Havant Borough Council keen kitesurfing enthusiast Mark Clark helped bring about implementation of the free Kite Beach launch area close to Chichester Avenue.

The reason for lobbying the council was so kitesurfers who both visit and live on Hayling have somewhere to launch without charge.

Currently if you want access to the kitesurfing spot in front of Hayling Island Golf Club then youll need to be a member of CBK which is owned and run by Chris Bull.

Mr Clark who has kitesurfed on the island for many years believed a free launch option was needed and set about getting the council to recognise this.

In the middle part of 2012 a sign was erected detailing where the designated boundaries are. Havant Borough Council agreed to let the area exist on a trial basis with the aim of making it a permanent fixture if feedback from riders and non kiters proved positive. This is now the case and Kite Beach looks set to remain which is good news for those involved in the sport.

Although Kite Beach is free to launch car parking charges remain in place.
