The former Rose in June public house site Selsmore Road which has been standing vacant for the last few years has recently been granted a change of use permission much to the dismay of some local residents.

Having been in existence as a pub since 1848 (although the building is older -formerly it was a cottage) the Rose in June building is held in high regard by many Hayling Islanders. After ceasing to trade as a public house in 2005 the Rose in June has remained empty and suffered subsequent problems after being hit by an arson attack in 2008.

Current Inn on the Beach owners Carole Mackie and Ian Murray did put in an unsuccessful bid to take on the premises in 2009 but this was dashed when a rival submitted their own seeking to develop the site as flats and houses.

On 31st July 2013 the decision to grant a change of use for the premises was despatched and a time scale of three years has been set for any work to be started subject to further permission being granted.
