The Rose in June pub site which has stood vacant on Selsmore Road for a while was recently granted planning permission for a brand new retail outlet to be put in its place. The Co-operative brand purchased the land and works started today to develop the building and where it sits into a new shopping store.
Hayling residents had protested the decision claiming another supermarket in such close proximity to others isnt needed. There have also been objections from vehicle owners who use the site as a free car park.
At the time of writing heavy machinery had moved in and an exercise in shrubbery and plant removal had begun although some residents are reporting that much of the work is cutting back Japanese knotweed which is a regulated process.
Time will tell how the venture pans out but you can have your say in the Hayling.co.uk forum thread which you can find by following the link https://hayling.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=45863
