This weekend will see thousands of spectators and participants descend on Hayling for the annual Nataional Watersports Festival at West Beachlands. A celebration of all things windsurfing kitesurfing stand up paddle boarding and kayaking its a highlight in the calendar for those of a salty bent.

Hayling.co.uk has already reported on the subsidised taster sessions for locals wishing to have a bash at the sports mentioned but youll need to be quick if you still havent booked your spot.

Virgin Kitesurfing Armada

September also sees the Virgin Kitesurfing Armada taking place which aims to set a Guinness World Record for the largest parade of kiters.

During 2013 318 riders took part including Sir Richard Branson. Virgin stepped in as headline sponsor and the tycoon flew to Hayling via private chopper to take part.

Riding from Hayling to Pagham during a suitable forecast (13/14 Sept 27/28 Sept or 11/12 Oct) the call will be made to run the event when Mother Nature allows.

2014s Armada will bring the kitesurfing community together for a two day festival featuring international equipment brands pro kiter Q&As movie screenings music and entertainment bars kit demos taster sessions and family on site camping. This year is set to be bigger and better than last with proceeds donated to Snow-Camp who work with young people. Last year 70000 was raised and its hoped more can accrued this year.

Dinsmore tops podium in Croatia

Good news for local slalom windsurfing pro James Dinsmore who recently took top honours at the IFCA European Slalom Windsurfing Champs in Bol Croatia.

Dinsmore (GBR659) fought off stiff competition to take the division win and rank fifth overall. Not bad for a chap who holds down a regular day job and has to fit in his competition commitments around his occupation.
